How do you make sure customers around the world can start using their new payment terminals in no time? Dutch company Payter, a specialist in contactless payment solutions, found the answer in smart process orchestration—together with Incentro. With Camunda and Mendix, they automated the onboarding process and cut it down to just seconds.

About Payter
Payter provides payment terminals for unattended use—think vending machines, snack walls, EV chargers, parking meters, and donation kiosks. Demand is booming, just like the shift towards self-service in the unattended payments market. But growth came with a cost: onboarding new terminals could take up to five working days.
That had to change. Fast. Because if you want to offer 24/7 service across multiple countries, manual processes and outdated systems just won’t cut it. Payter needed scalability, speed, and most of all: a seamless experience for their customers.

Frictionless onboarding
Demand for Payter’s payment terminals skyrocketed. Great news, of course—but onboarding those terminals was a different story. The process could take up to five working days and was largely manual: retyping data, emailing documents, and juggling systems that didn’t always play nicely together.
For a globally operating company offering 24/7 service, that’s simply unsustainable in the long run. The onboarding process needed to be much faster, smarter, and scalable—without hiring a team of ten. Payter was looking for a future-proof, intelligent solution that could connect existing systems, allow for human input, and eliminate errors.
We went from a week to just 10 minutes. I've even seen cases where onboarding took just 10 seconds.
André Bal, Director Supply Chain & Automation at Payter
From bottleneck to lightning speed
Today, terminal onboarding is largely automated. Customers enter their data via a Mendix portal, while Camunda orchestrates the entire flow in the background—from system integrations to prepping terminals for use.
RPA bots now handle repetitive tasks like data entry and document processing—fast, flawlessly, and 24/7. And the result? Terminals are ready to go within seconds. No more waiting. No more manual handoffs. Just power on and go.
The setup is scalable, flexible, and built for global growth. New countries or regulations? No problem. Camunda’s composable architecture makes updates easy and integrates with existing systems—without vendor lock-in. Payter can scale worldwide without scaling headcount.
Our solution with Camunda and Mendix, layered on top of Payter’s existing systems, fits perfectly in a best-of-breed strategy. It’s smart automation that removes the need for massive hiring.

The process: build fast, orchestrate smart
At Incentro, we skip the endless strategy decks—we build. Together with Payter, we designed a modular architecture where Camunda’s orchestration layer directs all processes. Mendix powers the customer-facing portal, while RPA bots handle the dirty work behind the scenes.
We worked iteratively: testing, tweaking, and re-releasing each step. This kept the project agile and responsive to new insights. Thanks to low-code, Payter can now make adjustments in-house—without waiting on developers.
Today, Payter runs 24/7 worldwide on a future-proof tech stack and streamlined process architecture. Everything is seamlessly connected—from backend systems to customer journey. Camunda is at the core of their orchestration strategy, and will soon orchestrate even more business processes.
